A novel structure of sulfonated polysulfone was studied for application as fuel cell membrane Sulfonated random copolymers with 30 and 40% degree of sulfonation were prepared via polycondensation reaction of bisphenol A with sulfonated and non sulfonated difluorodiphenylsulfone The structures of polymers were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared FT IR and proton nuclear magnetic resonance 1H NMR spectroscopies The results of thermal and mechanical properties as well as IEC, water absorption, and proton conductivity measurements showed the capability of the developed polymers for fuel cell performance The mechanical strength of 23 34 MPa and elongation of 12 87 %, proton conductivity of 0 078 and 0 142 S/cm at 25 and 80 oC, respectively, and high thermal stability for the sample with 40% degree of sulfonation were the validations
