The swift urban growth of the 21st century has led to the rise of megacities as primary hubs of population and economic activity This extraordinary expansion presents major obstacles for urban planners in terms of resource management, environmental sustainability, and living standards Simultaneously, the expansion of digital technologies has led to the emergence of the Smart City concept, which aims to enhance urban efficiency via data informed governance Nonetheless, the technocentric perspective of smart cities frequently disregards the socio cultural and climatic subtleties crucial for enduring sustainability Conversely, vernacular architecture provides proven methods for attaining environmental comfort using passive design and indigenous materials This review article examines the possible collaboration between these apparently contradictory fields: the age old knowledge of vernacular architecture and the technological advancements of smart systems We contend that incorporating local principles into intelligent megacity governance can reduce the environmental impact of urbanization while maintaining cultural identity The examination utilizes 40 essential references to explore how IoT sensors and big data analytics can improve passive design strategies Additionally, the research examines how smart governance influences the adaptation of traditional urban structures to fulfill contemporary requirements The results indicate that a hybrid framework, which we refer to as Smart Vernacularism, provides a robust route for sustainable urban growth in megacities This method not only improves energy efficiency but also promotes social unity by honoring local traditions The article ultimately asserts that the future of managing megacities depends on harmonizing advanced technological innovations with simple, local solutions
