In this work, a solar assisted multi stage variablepressure humidification dehumidification MS VPHD desalination system is exergetically investigated Thesystem includes three humidifiers, a liquid circulationvacuum pump, and solar water and air heaters Thevacuum pump acts as a dehumidifier The humidifier anddehumidifier operate at sub atmospheric pressure andatmospheric pressure, respectively It was found that thevacuum pump, air heater, water heater, and humidifiershave the maximum to minimum exergy loss duringoperation The considerable exergy loss via vacuumpump is due to the high work of this component Theineffectiveness of the flat plate solar air heater over theevacuated tube solar water heater was also confirmedconsidering their low exergy efficiencies
