Wireless sensor networks WSNs containing hundreds or even thousands of tiny sensors with limited capabilities are being used in many applications in field conditions, which may be hostile to monitoring, tracking or even controlling a physical phenomenon Sensor movement due to natural phenomena such as wind, and sea waves, etc in topology control of WSN is an important issue We study the effect of group mobility on topology control of WSNs We have done experiments using GA to study the effect of sensor movement on the network connectivity, sensing coverage, energy consumption, and clusters distribution The experiments are carried out with 5%, 10% and 15% of the sensors undergoing stochastic displacements with three different network sizes 100, 225 and 400 Mobility of sensors has non linear relation with coverage It can improve coverage even with less number of active sensors Our experiments show that using GA after movement we can increase the network life time appreciably, improve network performance, optimize cluster heads overlapping, total number of sensors out of range, and communication energy We did not take into account effect of radio interference, batteries, and density in this study
