چکیده مقاله
This research aims to study the crashworthiness characteristics of tubular glass fiber composite energy absorbers under quasi static axial compression Tubes were fabricated through a modified hand lay up method Five types of different stacking sequences containing six layers were fabricated including full unidirectional 902/02/902 , full coarse woven CW , full fine woven FW , three inner coarse woven layers and three outer circumferential UD layers CW3/903 , three inner coarse woven layers and three outer circumferential UD layers FW3/903 Force displacement and absorbed energy and induced damage mechanisms of experiments were investigated transversal and longitudinal fiber breakage, interlaminar and intralaminar delamination were the major failure mechanisms Comparing the FEM outputs versus experimentation, good correlations were achieved, thereby parametric study was employed to investigate the other potential stacking sequences including FW2/904 and FW4/902 Results revealed that an equal number of layers of woven and unidirectional fibers owns the optimal crashworthiness metrics and desirable failure mechanisms
