In this research, the microstructure and corrosion resistance of weld metal of dual phasestainless steel 2205 were investigated Welding was done with GTAW and ER2209welding wire and SMAW with E2209 electrode The microstructure of welding metalswas investigated using cyclic dynamic potential test in sugarcane juice solution with andwithout SO2 gas at 25 C and 75C The microstructure of both weld metals was observedas two phase austenitic ferritic along with secondary phases of Cr2N chromium nitrideand secondary austenite Impurity particles were observed in the E2209 weld metal fromthe SMAW process The results ofthe cyclic polarization corrosion test showed that bothweld metals passivate themselves well at a temperature of 25°C in sugarcane juicesolution with and without SO2 gas, and in case of damage to the passive protective film,they are able to repassivate themselves and form a protective film It was found that withincreasing temperature, especially in the presence of SO2 gas, the pitting resistance ofboth weld metals has decreased The presence of SO2 gas showed a decrease in pittingpotential at both temperatures of 25 C and 75 C E2209 weld metal presented bettercorrosion behavior than ER2209 weld metal at both temperatures of 25 C and75 C with and without the presence ofSO2 gas
