This present work reports the fabrication of porous ceramic bodies through the sintering of compact powder of alumina and silica as an additive The effects of sintering parameters temperature and time , powder compaction and silica additive on the physical and mechanical properties of porous alumina ceramic such as porosity, compressive and flexural strength and thermal conductivity were investigated Silica as an additive, about 5 wt % added to some specimens The samples manufactured by vibration and press methods Then these samples were sintered at 1325°C 1625°C for 2 hours The results proved that sintering stage change within the temperature domain of 1400–1475°C and go to intermediate stage of sintering silica additive able to change the density, thermal conductivity and strength of porous ceramic significantly These ceramic bodies may have a potential use in a wide range of applications due to an excellent combination of properties
