As part of the 2015 Paris agreement, ideas for alternate energy production were being considered as a pragmatic means to combat climate change Due to the harsh effects of fossil commodities being used as sources of alternative energy, this goal becomes imminent In energy storage; supercapacitors also known as electric double layer capacitors or ultra capacitors are devices with extremely high capacity and very low resistance Due to their energy storage mechanism, they have an advantage over batteries since they can store and deliver energy at relatively high rates The focus of the current research is on improving the energy density to extend the range of applications The efficiency of a supercapacitor is influenced by which electrode materials are used, types of electrolytes, and voltage ranges Hence, the vast majority of research is focused on developing better electrode materials This review explains how electrodes such as graphene, metal oxides, and conducting polymers are used in supercapacitors and their characteristics
