چکیده مقاله
The present study aimed to estimate the contamination of heavy metals HMs in urban and rural tap drinking water networks of Hamadan province, west of Iran, and their attributed health risks through the ingestion of water This is a novel study that focused on a comprehensive investigation of HMs in the province A total of 109 samples were collected and the concentrations of Hg, Cr, Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn, and Ni were determined by polarography The values of studied elements in all samples in both urban and rural areas were found in the order of Zn > Cu > Pb > Cr > Hg > Ni > Cd, and were lower than the national and WHO guidelines It concluded that tap water in rural areas had the same quality compared to urban areas in term of HMs Also, measured HMs concentrations were used to assess their non carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risk through deterministic techniques according to the EPA HQs were found in the order of Hg > Zn > Pb > Cr > Cu > Cd > Ni in both areas The HQ indices and ELCR values were found below 1 0 and 1 0×10 4 the acceptable values for adults , respectively Therefore, there are no significant chronic and carcinogenic health effects on local urban and rural inhabitants due to exposure to HMs via water ingestion However, annual monitoring of HMs is necessary, there is a possibility of increasing the concentration of these pollutants in water and threatening the residents’ health in future
