Natural ecosystems plus human societies are increasingly subjected to severe environmental degradation such as pollution and resource depletion and the worst of all, climate change, which jeopardizes the world's health and safety as well as the planet's long term sustainability Artificial intelligence AI being one of the most rapidly growing technology is now able to monitor, analyze, predict, and reduce these and many more complex environmental issues within a short time The paper reviews the primary usages of AI in climate simulation, meteorology, air and water quality control, waste disposal, wildlife preservation, calamity forecasting, and the betterment of power efficiency in smart grids to point out the new role of AI in supporting environmental protection AI has the potential to cause a huge change in the future status of mankind, but the implementation of AI in real environmental solutions is still a challenging process due to reasons such as the lack of data, high computational costs, ethical considerations, potential biases, and the need for more transparency and understanding of AI systems While mentioning these obstacles, the assessment also points out the areas where more studies are needed, underlining the importance of combining AI with other advanced technologies, and collaboration between different fields as well as the creation of powerful policy frameworks to accelerate global sustainability transitions leading to a future that is more resilient and durable
