The essential oil can be produced from fresh or dried plant The aim of drying is to reduce the moisture content from actively growing in the field to a level that prevents deterioration of the product and allows storage in a stable condition This study was carried out to investigate the essential oil constituents of the fresh and dried flowers of the R damascena grown in North east of Iran The results showed yield of essential oils from fresh and dried flowers of R damascena were 0 05 % v/w and 0 01 % v/w respectively Also a total of 21 compounds were identified from fresh sample and 32 compounds were identified from dried sample representing 65 97 % of the oil from fresh sample and 53 84 % of the dried sample The major compounds in the fresh flower oil of plant were Geraniol, Nonadecane and Farnesol, while the oil of dried flower consists of Heneicosane, Nonadecane and Heptadecane In conclusion there is a very significant difference in constituents of essential oils, because of drying conditions
