چکیده مقاله
Introduction: Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites formed by some molds fungi species in foods with vary in structure and biochemical effects that be able to cause mycotoxicosis Multiple studies point to the association between their exposure and reproductive toxicity in humans and animals This study was to reveal and understand the effect of mycotoxins on causing male and female infertility Methods: This study is a review of the results of studies published in English based on electronic sources PubMed,MEDLINE,Embase Results: Studies have shown that some mycotoxins may cause mutations in the gametes genome, act as endocrine disruptors, damage to sex organs, disruption of hormone synthesis and consequences related to infertility Exposure to the aforementioned mycotoxins in animal models showed adverse effects on the maturation 1eydig1 and 1eydig cell in male and proliferation and apoptotic indices of ovarian follicles and uterine cells Similarity of zearalenone to estrogen has been linked to precocious puberty in girls Aflatoxin B1 caused poor sperm quality, fumonisin B1 linked to the onset of puberty, semen quality, fertility rates and testicular morphology in male Deoxynivalenol effects on spermatogenesis associated with testosterone deficiency, and ochratoxin A has been linked to be teratogenic, reduce birth weight and craniofacial abnormalities Conclusion: Some fungi, in addition to causing harmful infections to reproductive tissues, by producing mycotoxins in many foods, cause adverse effects such as suppression of the immune system, carcinogenesis, metabolic disorders, and are also effective in causing infertility reproductive toxicity in humans in various possible ways
