Underground spaces are a critical component of modern infrastructure In seismic regions such asIran, these spaces must withstand not only static loads but also seismic loads Due to the confinementof tunnels by a large mass of soil, the induced vibrational forces on the tunnel are reduced Therefore,in many cases, static design ensures stability against low intensity and short duration earthquakes However, these structures are not immune to severe seismic loads, such as those from the Kobe, Chi Chi, and Kocaeli earthquakes Seismic design is especially crucial for subway stations constructedin soft soils These structures are often built at shallow depths with a rectangular cross section, whichgives them different seismic properties compared to circular tunnels Due to low overburden, reducedsoil stiffness, and greater wall flexibility at these stations, the potential for deformation is higher Ingeneral, the seismic design of underground structures considers the deformation of the structure bythe surrounding soil, often influenced by their interaction Common methods in this field includepseudo static and time history methods This paper starts with a dynamic time history analysis of ametro station, followed by a pseudo static analysis using the structure soil interaction method Thecomparison of these methods shows a close range of outputs overall However, the pseudo staticmethod yields higher levels of internal forces, leading to an overestimation during the design process Nevertheless, it offers the advantage of less complexity for analyses and requires less calculationtime
