چکیده مقاله
Many studies on L2 acquisition of English claimed that certain errors observed in their studies occurred due to L1 influence The present study was conducted to examine this claim through a cross linguistic comparison among the findings of the studies on L1 and L2 learning of English wh questions, including the author’s study on Persian speaking adults learning English 200 Persian speaking adults participated in a test with 44 declarative sentences which were to be changed into wh questions Data was analyzed and results were classified and compared with the results of previous studies on learning wh questions as L2 and L1 The findings of this cross linguistic study revealed that certain error patterns observed in English L2 learners which has been assumed to be produced due to L1 influence, are not actually motivated by L1 This study suggested that finding the actual procedures of L2 learning and the real cases of L1 influence on L2 acquisition needs to consider and compare the results of different studies on the cross linguistic L2 acquisition of a target structure and also considering what happens in the L1 acquisition of the target structure
