The α phosphorus ligand of 1 p tolyl 2 tri p tolyl λ5 phosphanylidene ethan 1 one L was prepared The reactions of the ligand L with mercury II and cadmium II ions in 1:1 ratio by dry methanol as solvent resulted p tolyl 3PCHCOC6H4CH3 CdCl2 2 C1 and p tolyl 3PCHCOC6H4CH3 HgBr2 2 C2 The solid state structure of C2 was detected by X ray crystallography analysis and its Computational studies at DFT B3LYP/6 31G level of theory are also reported
