This study explores the advantages and limitations of utilizing smart contracts in the upstream sector of the oil industry within the framework of blockchain technology Key benefits, including enhanced transparency, reduced operational costs, decreased execution time, improved oversight, lower legal risks, and strengthened information security, are examined On the other hand, challenges such as resistance to change, incompatibility with existing legal frameworks, high implementation costs, lack of technical infrastructure, and political risks are identified as significant barriers to the digital transformation of contractual processes in the oil industry To address these challenges, the paper proposes solutions including stakeholder training, regulatory reform, the adoption of integrated platforms, and the development of flexible contractual structures The findings of this research offer valuable insights for policymakers, oil companies, and technology developers as they navigate the path toward blockchain based contract modernization
