چکیده مقاله
Limited access to suitable land for construction projects forces geotechnical engineers to seek methods for increasing ground bearing capacity by adding chemical stabilizers One such environmentally friendly additive is polyvinyl alcohol PVA , a water soluble polymer In this study, Babolsar natural sand was treated with a colorless PVA gel, and the unconfined compressive strength of the treated samples was examined to analyze the effects of water content, PVA concentration, and curing time In general, adding PVA improves the soil's compressive strength Furthermore, because retained moisture reduces compressive strength, specimens with a higher water content need longer curing time to reach their maximum strength While fully dried specimens fail suddenly and develop oblique cracks, specimens that retain moisture exhibit a bulged failure pattern Additionally, the moist samples develop multiple cracks after testing, while fully dried samples only form a single main crack This difference in failure patterns happens because of the retained water of the specimen Interestingly, adding PVA has no effect on the soil's elastic modulus
