In this study, by reviewing the seismotectonics of Iran an attempt has been made to clarify the strong ground motion characteristics Since1973, by establishing the Iran Strong Motion Network ISMN a considerable number of earthquakes have been recorded By considering the earthquake characteristics of the strong ground motions the structural damage of some of the typical buildings are evaluated Finally, the long term effects of these earthquakes are discussed
