Floods as natural disasters have been affecting human lives from beginning of life Up to 1980s flood protection in world was mainly realized by means of technical measures The increase in environmental awareness, an adapted legislation and modified requirement for flood protection decreased the role of these measures and increased the role of non structural measures Flood preparedness plan in Germany is a series of actions e g protecting houses against flood, increasing public awareness, flood warning system, emergency service and flood insurance that are described briefly in this paper Authors try to show some experiences and measures taken concerning these subjects in Germany
