The conversion of agricultural land into residential areas has increasingly led to environmental degradation While government policies can help curb this trend, farmers' decisions remain the key factor shaping land use Effective management strategies must therefore take into account the psychological drivers of farmers' behavior This study applies the Theory of Planned Behavior TPB to explore the socio psychological factors influencing farmers' land conservation practices in Jouybar, Iran Data were collected from 200 randomly selected farmers and analyzed using structural equation modeling SEM with the partial least squares method PLS SEM The measurement model confirmed both reliability and validity, and the structural model showed that attitude unlike subjective norms or perceived behavioral control significantly predicts intention Overall, the TPB explained 61% of the variance in intention and 62% of the variance in behavior The findings suggest that farmers with positive attitudes toward land conservation and who value its importance are more likely to engage in conservation practices Therefore, policies that raise awareness, foster positive perceptions, and improve access to essential resources such as fertilizers and pesticides can effectively support conservation By aligning interventions with psychological determinants, policymakers can more effectively encourage farmers to preserve agricultural land and reduce farmland loss
