چکیده مقاله
Environmental pollution, particularly from heavy metals and air pollutants, has emerged as a significant contributor to mental health disorders This comprehensive review synthesizes evidence on the impact of heavy metals e g , lead, mercury, cadmium and air pollutants e g , particulate matter PM2 5 , nitrogen dioxide NO2 , ozone O3 on mental health outcomes, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and cognitive impairments Epidemiological and mechanistic studies indicate that chronic exposure to these toxins disrupts neurobiological pathways, induces oxidative stress, and promotes neuroinflammation, contributing to the onset and exacerbation of psychiatric conditions This review integrates findings from 40 peer reviewed sources to elucidate the mechanisms, vulnerable populations, and potential interventions to mitigate these risks
