For decades, chaos theory has served as a powerful metaphor in architecture This paper explores its evolution from a philosophical inspiration to a practical, generative methodology—a transition catalyzed by the convergence of artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing This review charts the trajectory of chaos driven design, from its theoretical foundations in nonlinear dynamics to its contemporary operationalization through computational algorithms and its materialization via robotic fabrication and additive manufacturing Through a systematic review of foundational and recent literature, combined with a technical architectural analysis, we synthesize the state of the art in this emerging field The analysis reveals three key domains of application: ۱ chaos enhanced metaheuristics for design optimization, ۲ generative models that use nonlinear dynamics for complex form finding, and ۳ fabrication aware systems that translate digital chaos into physical form A significant trend identified is the shift from designing static, chaos inspired objects to designing dynamic, fabrication constrained generative processes This paper provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the current landscape and future potential of chaos driven architecture By identifying key algorithmic approaches, fabrication challenges, and critical research frontiers, it serves as a roadmap for researchers and practitioners aiming to harness deterministic chaos for the creation of a more complex, adaptive, and buildable architectural future
