Geometry has long served as a cornerstone of design, providing a framework for aesthetic expression and rational construction This paper presents a comprehensive, evidence based review of this enduring role, tracing the evolution of geometric principles from antiquity to the contemporary digital era Leveraging a systematic analysis of ۸۹۱ papers and a detailed examination of ۵۰ key studies, the research critically evaluates a core transformation: the shift of geometry's function from a normative framework for discovering universal, static forms to that of a generative engine for creating complex and adaptive systems The study addresses key historical touchstones, including the application of Platonic and Vitruvian principles and the rise of parametric and algorithmic design The results reveal that this evolution represents not merely technological advancement but a fundamental philosophical realignment This is characterized by a significant transition from transcendent sources of authority, where ideal forms are sought externally, to immanent sources, where logic resides within the system itself Furthermore, it marks a definitive shift from normative operational modes, which aim to replicate a pre existing ideal, to generative modes that computationally explore and produce a multitude of novel outcomes Consequently, this evolution has profound implications for contemporary creative practice, challenging traditional notions of authorship, redefining aesthetic beauty as an emergent property, and questioning the very nature of form
