چکیده مقاله
Friction stir welding FSW is a solid state joining process widely used for joining similar and dissimilar metals as well as for the fabrication of metal matrix nanocomposites In this study, the effect of adding silicon carbide SiC nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of friction stir welded 6061 T6 aluminum alloy sheets in a butt joint configuration was investigated Experiments were conducted to determine the optimum rotational speed, welding speed, and nanoparticle content Rotational speeds of 700, 1000, and 1250 rpm and welding speeds of 40, 70, and 100 mm/min were used In addition, SiC nanoparticles with weight fractions of 0 1 wt % and 0 2 wt % were introduced into the joint line prior to welding The results showed that the best mechanical properties were achieved at a rotational speed of 1250 rpm and a welding speed of 40 mm/min Compared with samples welded under the same conditions without nanoparticle addition, the mechanical strength of the joint was improved This improvement can be attributed to the presence of SiC particles, which restrict dislocation movement, increase nucleation sites for recrystallized grains, and promote grain refinement in the aluminum structure at the weld zone Microstructural analyses performed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy confirmed these observations
