Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD is one of the most common and disabling psychological disorders, characterized by intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors that can severely impair an individual’s quality of life if left untreated Recent studies have indicated that deficits in emotion regulation play a significant role in the persistence and exacerbation of obsessive compulsive symptoms Dialectical Behavior Therapy DBT is an acceptance and mindfulness based therapeutic approach designed to enhance skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and effective interpersonal relationships The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of DBT in improving emotion regulation and reducing obsessive compulsive symptoms among individuals diagnosed with OCD This research employed a quasi experimental design with pretest–posttest and a control group The statistical population included all patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who visited counseling and psychotherapy centers in Tehran in 2024 Using purposive sampling, 30 participants were selected and randomly assigned to the experimental n = 15 and control n = 15 groups The experimental group received eight 90 minute sessions of DBT intervention based on Linehan’s standard protocol Research instruments included the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Gratz & Roemer, 2004 and the Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale Y BOCS Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance MANCOVA The findings revealed that DBT, compared to the control group, led to a significant improvement in emotion regulation skills and a reduction in obsessive compulsive symptoms p < 0 01 These results suggest that strengthening emotional capacities through DBT skills training can reduce the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors Accordingly, it can be concluded that Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an effective therapeutic approach for OCD and may serve as a complementary or alternative psychotherapy method
