The plant, with its bioactive compounds, is a good candidate for the development of natural antibacterial products such as hand sanitizers Previous studies have shown that the non polar extract of the plant contains compounds such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, and mucilage, which are responsible for its strong antibacterial effects The use of the extract of the plant in hand sanitizers reduces dependence on synthetic chemicals and replaces compounds such as triclosan with natural extracts that do not have the side effects of antibiotic resistance and skin irritation It also increases safety and skin compatibility due to the mucilage in the plant with its skin softening and repairing properties, and in addition to removing contaminants, it creates a protective layer on the skin and prevents bacterial proliferation Formulation optimization is necessary to maintain the stability of the active ingredients at the pH of the final product and ensure its uniform performance In vitro studies have shown that the extract of the plant remains stable in liquid environments, but further studies under in vivo conditions are needed Well diffusion and tube dilution experiments on common pathogenic strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus cereus have confirmed that the extract significantly inhibits bacterial growth at concentrations of 50 to 400 mg/ml The minimum inhibitory concentration MIC of the extract was reported to be between 12 5 and 50 mg/ml and its minimum bactericidal concentration MBC was reported to be between 12 5 and 100 mg/ml In particular, the extract of wild yam inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus by 95 80% and Escherichia coli by 89 15% As a result, yam has great potential for application in sustainable health products not only as an effective antibacterial agent but also as a skin nourishing compound
