The relationship between bone turnover markers and BMD in active men is unclear We investigated the relationship between bone specific alkaline phosphatase BAP , Levels of serum osteocalcin OC and BMD at various skeletal sites in active Iranian middle age men A study was conducted on 125 active men over the age of 45 to 70 years BMD at the spine and left forearm were measured with a DXA Levels of serum osteocalcin OC and bone specific alkaline phosphatase BAP were determined SPSS version 26 Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used for data analysis Shapiro Wilk’s statistics was used to check normality of data Pearson correlation coefficient was used to find the relationship between body mass index and lumbar bone mineral density BMD at the spine and proximal femur had significant negative correlation with serum OC r=−0 395 to −0 530 and BAP r=−0 297 to −0 486 This study indicated the correlation between specific alkaline phosphatase BAP and BMD in active middle aged men and suggested that serum OC and BAP are the key determining factors of BMD decreases and also suggested that physical activity is associated with BMD
