چکیده مقاله
The dominance of men and patriarchal cultures has always been a controversial topic No matter how much one might search back to the history, female characters always been put down as secondary comparing to men and this suppression sometimes leads to destruction, literally or metaphorically Tennyson s The Lady of Shallot 1833 is a great example of an innocent female who is damaged by patriarchal society Meanwhile, Tennessee William s A Street Car named Desire 1947 is also presenting the destruction of women in a male dominant world The journey of both female characters in these works of art bears similarities and differences In this paper, I shall compare the main female characters in these works of literature and explain the reason they end tragically The elements might differ because of the fact that they have been published in different eras with different dominant ideologies but the main point is similar which will be discussed
