In this paper cooperation between restoration and retrofitting of monuments after a disaster such as earthquake was evaluated On 31 March 2006, a series of earthquakes with the strongest shock measuring 6 on the Richter scale according to Iran Geophysics Centre struck south western Iran and affected the cities and villages around Borujerd in the Lorestan Province The seismic jolt caused extensive damage in many villages and the city of Borujerd There are about 40 cultural heritage properties which have sustained damages of various degrees in the earthquake stricken area The monument enshrines Imamzadeh Ja’far the saintly descendant of the Prophet who has passed away in 525 AH/ 1146 AD Dating back to Seljuk period, the Shrine resembles the structures of the southern provinces with its beehive dome The major damage in the shrine is the collapse of the beehive dome Weak connection among different parts from reconstruction is another factor effective in damages incurred to the shrine structure Severity or magnitude of earthquake in Seilabkhor plain was more in one direction from the vertical direction This factor is another effective element in destruction of part of the Imamzadeh Jafar Shrine In restoration and the related agents the seismic improvement is not considered and also in connecting different parts or joints of structure the seismic problems are not counted for So at the time of earthquake, reconstructed and restoration parts are losing their resistance Reconstruction of the Imamzadeh Jafar dome seems difficult Bricks that are fallen inside the dome should be recovered and with very small consideration of consolidation of the dome it should be reconstructed In this process the necessary items about make cooperation between restoration and retrofitting must be considered
