چکیده مقاله
Teaching English in bilingual and multilingual classrooms presents a range of pedagogical, linguistic, and psychological challenges that significantly influence both teaching effectiveness and learner outcomes In such contexts, students often possess diverse linguistic backgrounds, varying proficiency levels, and different degrees of exposure to the target language, which complicates the instructional process Teachers are required to manage multiple languages simultaneously while ensuring comprehension, engagement, and equitable participation among learners One of the major challenges is linguistic interference from the first and second languages, which may hinder accurate acquisition of English vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation Additionally, classroom management becomes more complex due to differences in learners’ language dominance and cognitive processing strategies Socio cultural factors also play an important role, as students’ identity and attitudes toward different languages can affect motivation and participation Furthermore, limited instructional resources and insufficient teacher training in multilingual pedagogy exacerbate these challenges Despite these difficulties, research suggests that bilingual and multilingual settings can also provide cognitive and linguistic advantages if appropriate teaching strategies are implemented Therefore, understanding the challenges and adopting effective pedagogical approaches is essential for improving English language teaching in such contexts This study highlights the key difficulties faced by teachers and emphasizes the need for adaptive, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching practices
