چکیده مقاله
With attention to the increasing volumes of heavy vehicles, it is essential toexamine how the future road networks can deal with heavy vehicles This studyuses detailed vehicle trajectory data recorded in congested traffic condition toanalyse the impacts of the existence of heavy vehicles in traffic stream on trafficcharacteristics In particular the impacts of their existence wich influencesdriver’s car following behaviour and consequently they have impacts on roadcapacity This paper considered four car following combinations including carfollowing car C C , car following heavy vehicle C H , heavy vehiclefollowing car H C , and heavy vehicle following heavy vehicle H H Theimpacts were investigated with microscopic and macroscopic points of view Theformer one analysed driver’s reaction time and subject vehicle acceleration; andthe later one investigated the headways between two successive vehiclesinvolved in following process The study showed fundamental differencesamongst the car following combinations and presented the impacts of existenceof heavy vehicles on road capacity
