Evacuation is one of the important activities in disaster management whichusually happens after a disaster In this research, evacuation is a process oftransferring people from emergency shelters to the regional one for longtimesettlement in post earthquake situation Evacuation vehicles transfer people uponthe transportation network which suffers from unpredicted traffic congestionsand blockages in some parts due to the earthquake In this research, the aim wasto employ the intelligent transportation system ITS technologies providing thereal time information about transportation network condition By incorporatingthis information, the routing plan can be updated to avoid the vehicles fromunpredicted congestion and blockages This problem was modeled as a vehiclerouting problem VRP and an ant colony optimization algorithm was proposedto solve it This model was applied to a part of Tehran's network The resultsshowed that using real time information for transportation network in caseswhere there were unpredicted blockages in the network, led to the increase of thenumber of evacuated shelters by the average of 42 Also, both the totalevacuation time and the total travel time were decreased by the average of 110and 51 minutes, respectively
