The increasing demand for efficient renewable energy systems has driven advancements in thermodynamic cycles, particularly the Brayton and Rankine cycles, for solar and geothermal applications This review synthesizes recent research on performance optimization strategies for these cycles, focusing on parameter adjustments, working fluid selection, and the integration of innovative configurations Specific studies explore combined helium Brayton and organic Rankine cycles for solar power tower systems, supercritical and transcritical CO₂ cycles, and techno economic optimization of organic Rankine cycles powered by solar energy By analyzing energy and exergy performance, as well as economic trade offs, this article provides a holistic perspective on enhancing thermal efficiency and system viability Future directions are proposed to address challenges in scale, variability, and system integration, paving the way for distributed renewable energy solutions
