With the increasing adoption of Wall hung Gas Boilers in residential and commercial buildings as a primary heating source, enhancing their thermal efficiency is of paramount importance to reduce energy consumption and improve performance One of the key factors affecting the thermal efficiency of boilers is the performance of their heat exchanger Various methods, such as modifying the fluid flow path design and incorporating vortex generators, can be employed to enhance heat transfer in heat exchangers This study investigates the effect of these vortex generators on the performance and thermal efficiency of heat exchangers in gas fired wall mounted boilers Experiments were conducted in two scenarios: with and without vortex generators in the heat exchanger Based on prior research, rectangular and 45 degree angled vortex generators were identified as the most optimal types, which were also used in this study The results demonstrated a significant improvement in heat transfer rate due to the vortex generators, with an increase in the Nusselt number and thermal efficiency by 8 and 15 percent respectively This improvement is due to the formation of vortical flows within the tubes, which enhance fluid mixing and consequently increase heat transfer rates However, the use of vortex generators naturally leads to an increase in Pressure drop, which must be considered in the design and selection of pumps and flow inducing systems
