The effect of ultrasound –ozone treatment on the degradation of diazinon and chlorpyrifos in polluted tomatoes was investigated In this paper, a self designed system coupling ultrasound US with ozone generator was used in order to study the effects of the combination of ultrasound and ozone treatment on the removal of residual diazinon and chloropyrifos on tomatoes The samples were exposed to certain concentrations of ozone 1 and 2 ppm and ultrasound radiations 40 and 70 kHz and with various exposure times 5, 17 5, 30 minutes in order to evaluate the combined effects of ozone concentrations and ultrasound frequencies on the degradation of diazinon and chlorpyrifos Then, the remained pesticide residues concentrations were determined with High Performance Liquid Chromatography HPLC Results indicated that after 30 min, the most removal of diazinon and chlorpyrifos residues were 88 6% and 92%, respectively at the frequency of 70 kHz and the ozone exposure of 2 ppm Ultrasonic irradiation in combined with ozone had a synergistic effect in reducing residual diazinon and chlorpyrifos with the highest rate occurring for 30 min The present study showed that ultrasonic irradiation and ozone exposure could be applied to reduce the residual diazinon and chlorpyrifos in order to achieve the standards for pesticide residue limits
