The eco friendly pH responsive film was prepared by Basil seed gum BSG matrix incorporating 5%wt Malva sylvestris MSE extract by casting method In this way, FESEM results indicated that MSE was uniformly dispersed in the BSG to form a compact composite film The films were then characterized by optical properties and color changes at different pH The application to monitor fish freshness was also studied Overall, Analysis results demonstrated that the film containing MSE increased hydrophobicity decreased the transparency, and showed distinct color changes from reddish to violet to blue as the pH was increased from 5, 7 and 9 The result indicated that BSG MSE film has great potential as an intelligent food packaging
