A small modular reactor SMR is a type of nuclear reactor distinguished by its smaller size and capacity compared to traditional large scale nuclear reactors Typically, an SMR has an electrical output of less than 300 MW and is designed to be more mobile, safer, and easier to deploy Recent advancements in the development, study, and application of various SMR types have demonstrated their economic and flexibility benefits across multiple industries This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of several SMR types, including light water reactors LWRs , liquid metal cooled reactors LMRs , molten salt reactors MSRs , and gas cooled reactors GCRs Each reactor type is examined in terms of its structural design, control modeling implementation, applications, and impacts on the power system
