چکیده مقاله
Workplace procrastination is a prevalent and costly issue affecting employee productivity and organizational efficiency This review explores the psychological and behavioral mechanisms through which neuroticism, a personality trait characterized by emotional instability, anxiety, and frequent negative affect, contributes to procrastination in occupational contexts Drawing on empirical literature published between 2000 and 2024, we examine how neuroticism predisposes individuals to patterns of avoidance, emotional dysregulation, and maladaptive cognitive processing High neurotic individuals are more likely to experience intense negative emotions such as fear, worry, and self doubt, which disrupt task engagement Emotion regulation difficulties play a central role, as procrastination is often used as a short term strategy to avoid emotional discomfort In addition, these individuals frequently rely on avoidance based coping mechanisms and perceive work tasks as threatening or overwhelming, which further delays task initiation Cognitive appraisals influenced by low self efficacy and fear of failure also mediate the relationship between neuroticism and procrastination Furthermore, stressful work environments amplify these effects by depleting coping resources, leading to a cycle of stress and delay The review underscores the importance of understanding how stable personality traits interact with psychological processes in the workplace Organizational interventions aimed at improving emotional intelligence, promoting adaptive coping strategies, and reframing task appraisals may help reduce procrastination among neurotic employees Incorporating personality assessments into workplace training and mental health support programs can contribute to more tailored and effective approaches for improving employee performance and well being
