The rapid transition to electric vehicles EVS is reshaping the demand for lubricants and additives, particularly in the extreme pressure EP and anti wear AW sub categories Traditional additives optimized for internal combustion engine lubrication are often not well suited to the unique challenges of electric vehicle lubrication including higher torque, extreme thermal stresses, and compatibility with electrical components Next generation EP/AW additives are emerging as critical enablers that will deliver higher thermal stability, lower electrical conductivity, and greater efficiency under stressed conditions This article reviews novel chemical structures including ionic liquids, nanostructured materials, and biocomposites that hold the promise of extending component life while improving energy efficiency and supporting sustainability goals in the modern transportation industry By bridging materials science with the specific requirements of electric vehicles, these advanced additives are set to play a pivotal role in the future of automotive engineering
