Information and Communication Technology tools facilitate learning and teaching in this digital decade People use ICT tools for communication, learning, finding answers, and teaching subjects Digital literacy is vital to properly using ICT tools in the teaching and learning process Digital literacy completes traditional literacy by integrating ICT tools and innovating the classroom Citizens who live in poor regions are disadvantaged in terms of technology use, and they only have limited access to the latest technological advances, which, as a result, restricts opportunities because of the lack of digital literacy in the Global South This study investigates teachers’ perceptions of the economic hegemonic structures in learning and teaching in Iran and their impacts on students’ use of ICT tools and digital literacy The data was collected by interviewing ten female teachers who teach in different schools in Tehran, and this was conducted using a semi structured online interview This study revealed that Iranian teachers’ use of ICT tools is restricted, and they do not have full access to the latest technological development; this stems from the economic hegemonies and the inequalities in the education system According to these teachers, the scarce distribution and implementation of ICT tools considerably influence students’ Digital Literacy
