In this research, an attempt has been made to answer the question whether there is a significant difference between male and female English learners in terms of using guessing ability's strategies 80 elementary English learners were chosen 40 males and 40 females from an institute in Khorramabad, Iran Two cloze tests were designed in order to gather data from learners with a reliability of 0 612 based on KR 21 method The subjects were asked to write the reason they had for choosing a particular answer The results showed that there was no meaningful difference between males and females independent sample t test sig 2 tailed was bigger than 0 05 But the frequency distribution indicated that male learners were more willing to risk while female learners left more questions unanswered This shows that male learners are more likely to test their chance even though they are not certain about their answer and have no justifications for that
