چکیده مقاله
In This paper presents an experimental study related to mechanically induced residual stress effects on Lamb wave propagation in steel plates Out of plane surface responses over the tensile area were measured using piezoelectric transducers for two states: one in the initial unstressed state, and another in the tensile residual stressed state obtained after mechanical loading Three frequency sweep excitations, 200 250 kHz, 285 350 kHz, and 290 380 kHz, were utilized to investigate the stress effects on the spectral response The obtained results provide clear evidence of a systematic downshift of the dominant resonance frequency of the Lamb mode, peak amplitude reduction, and, for several cases, moderate spectral broadening There was energy redistribution within the spectrum from higher to lower frequency components, while the high frequency parts of the latter were more strongly attenuated by residual stresses These features are interpreted as a decrease in the effective phase and group velocities, accompanied by an increase in damping according to the acoustoelastic theory These observations provide enough evidence to state that Lamb wave frequency domain features are sensitive to elastic property and microstructure variations induced by stresses The proposed approach is reliable, quantitative, and fully non destructive for the differentiation of different residual stress states in steel plates; it is suitable for residual stress assessment, structural health monitoring, and predictive maintenance in industrial components
