A biopolymer based hydrogel composed of polyvinyl alcohol PVA and sodium alginate SA was developed, incorporating saffron extract and green synthesized ZnO nanoparticles coated with chitosan ZnO NPs Chsn FE SEM and EDX analyses confirmed a porous network structure and successful incorporation of nanoparticles The presence of ZnO NPs Chsn significantly enhanced the hydrogel's swelling and porosity, with water uptake increasing from 220 9 _x0000_b1 1 89% to 589 4 _x0000_b1 1 77% and porosity from 31 1 _x0000_b1 1 03% to 90 7 _x0000_b1 1 83% These findings indicate that the hydrogel possesses favorable structural and physicochemical properties, suggesting its potential suitability for biomedical applications
