With the increase of competition in the global marketplace, the nature of competition among organizations has been turned into competition between supply chains In other words, the greatest source of competition for companies is the management of their supply chains; it is obvious that in the context of the environment of global commerce, the traditional supply chain management methods cannot embrace all new activities and match with them To use full potential of e marketplaces, new business models, based on a concept, named Grid Computing, have been emerged In this paper, first we introduce Grid technology, and then try to identify problems existing in the traditional supply chain management Afterward, solutions based on Grid Computing will be presented Also, we represent noteworthy examples for applications of Grid Finally, a case study in the petrochemical field that has a numerous economical profits, especially for our country, Iran, will be studied
