The increasing complexity, interconnectivity, and dynamic behavior of contemporary engineering and socio technical systems challenge traditional reductionist approaches, which often fail to capture emergent properties and non linear interactions Systems Thinking has therefore gained prominence as a paradigm that emphasizes holistic analysis, feedback loops, and system wide patterns Yet, a persistent gap remains in operationalizing its conceptual insights into quantitative and empirically verifiable tools for decision making and optimization In parallel, Industry 4 0 has introduced Digital Twins, dynamic, data driven, high fidelity digital counterparts of physical systems that integrate real time and historical data Beyond visualization, Digital Twins provide powerful platforms for simulation, predictive analysis, and optimization, offering a safe environment for experimentation This paper proposes an integrated framework that bridges Systems Thinking and Digital Twins through Agent Based Modeling ABM An Agent Based Digital Twin represents a system as interacting autonomous agents, naturally capturing emergent behaviors and feedback dynamics This alignment enables the Digital Twin to evolve from a static mirror into an active _x001F_living laboratory_x001F_ for systemic inquiry The proposed framework demonstrates how Agent Based Digital Twins can embody the principles of Systems Thinking by visualizing interconnectivity, quantifying feedback loops and time delays, testing _x001F_what if_x001F_ scenarios, and identifying high leverage intervention points The fusion of these approaches offers a novel methodology for mastering complexity across domains such as smart manufacturing, supply chain management, and intelligent urban ecosystems, advancing both theoretical understanding and practical decision support
