چکیده مقاله
The growing use of cognitive enhancers CEs , often called smart drugs or neuroenhancers, among university students has raised serious public health and ethical concerns These substances — including prescription medications like methylphenidate, modafinil, and amphetamines, as well as over the counter stimulants like caffeine and herbal supplements — are commonly taken to boost memory, concentration, and academic performance This systematic review analyzes data from 48 studies published between 2000 and 2020, focusing on the patterns of use, motivations, methods of access, and associated risks among healthy student populations Findings show that CE use is particularly common among male students and those enrolled in demanding programs such as medicine and law Although users report temporary benefits like enhanced alertness and productivity, the evidence also reveals risks such as dependency, psychological distress, and cardiovascular complications This paper highlights the need for better education on the dangers of non medical CE use and calls for clearer institutional policies and more robust longitudinal research to understand the long term consequences
