A review of the use of rice husk waste as a culture medium supplement to increase biomass, protein quality, lipid, amino acid profile, and fatty acids in Spirulina platensis

چکیده مقاله

The increasing demand for the production of high value added bioactive compounds, such as proteins, biolipids, amino acids, and essential fatty acids, has led researchers to search for inexpensive, readily accessible, and sustainable sources to enrich microorganism culture media Spirulina platensis is one of the important cyanobacteria in the food, pharmaceutical, and health supplement industries that requires a culture medium rich in minerals and organic elements In recent years, the use of cheap and abundant agricultural waste such as rice husks as a natural source of silica, potassium, phosphorus, phenolic compounds, and micronutrients has attracted attention Rice husks have the potential to become an effective supplement in the culture medium due to their content of 20 25% lignin, 35% cellulose, 20% hemicellulose, and 15 20% mineral compounds The results of several studies show that adding rice husk extract or hydrolysate to the culture medium of Spirulina platensis increases the growth rate, increases the synthesis of biological pigments chlorophyll and phycocyanin , reduces the cost of biomass production, and improves the nutritional profile The presence of polyphenolic compounds in rice husk can also act as a biostimulant and stimulate nitrogen metabolism and protein synthesis In this article, while examining the chemical composition of rice husk, the studies on its effect on the amount of biomass, protein percentage, total lipid, fatty acid composition, and amino acid profile in Spirulina platensis are analyzed The results of the reviews show that the use of rice husk waste as a supplement, in addition to reducing production costs, increases the biological performance and nutritional quality of Spirulina
